Overview

Butter is the signature food of Ireland and the Butter Museum opens this special heritage to the visitor.  The Butter Museum touches on every aspect of this world, a world that embraces thousand year old butter buried in a bog, a lost rural Ireland of the small creameries and a modern Ireland of global commercial success with the Kerrygold brand.  Central to the story is the emergence of the food trade in Cork and the Cork Butter Market.  This market was at one time the largest butter market in the world and the home to the world’s first global food brand. Described by the New York Times as “engaging and multi-faceted”, the Butter Museum offers a distinctive insight into Ireland.
